Recently, Happy Feet 911 received 100 pairs of new socks from some wonderful community minded folks. Laura McLeod, Barbara Densmore and Bonnie Wacholtz are the brains behind a local initiative which they refer to as the Toasty Toes Project.

Laura, who also happens to be a Block Watch Captain, had the idea to provide new warm socks to those who need them most. After bouncing the idea around with two friends, the trio launched a GoFund Me page. The idea took off and the team was able to raise just over $1,500 in two weeks. Flying Fish Nanaimo placed the order on the group's behalf so they could get wholesale pricing on their order of hundreds of soft and warm merino wool socks.

We all know that socks are not the solution to homelessness, MacLeod said. "But they are a small tangible way we can provide help this season while continuing to work for the systemic political and social change needed to address the root causes of this issue."

On Friday November 25, Laura and Bonita joined forces with Happy Feet 911 to give out some of the socks to grateful recipients. More socks will be distributed by the team in the coming weeks, with some socks also slated to be donated to local shelters.

Here is the link to the GoFundMe page (https://www.gofundme.com/f/toasty-toes-fundraiser?utm_medium=email&u ) which will continue to run to the end of December of 2022. Any additional funds received during this time will go toward the purchase of more socks.

Good job Team Toasty Toes, outstanding effort!
