Kitimat RCMP weekly report October 19th to October 25th 2023

Damaged vehicle:

The Kitimat RCMP were called to a Whitesail neighbourhood residence on October 19th, to a reported mischief to a vehicle. It had been reported that the vehicle owner noticed some scratches along the side of the vehicle, that may have been caused by someone walking by and running an object, like a key, along the side of the vehicle. It was unknown exactly when the damage was done, where the vehicle was at the time, or what object was used. The vehicle owner was provided with a file number and would be claiming through their insurance company. (2023-4024)

Wanted employee:

Information that an out of town employee, working at a local construction site, may have had warrants, was provided to the Kitimat RCMP Detachment on October 20th. Checks were conducted and it was confirmed that there was in fact an unendorsed warrant for the employee. The employee was arrested and placed into the Kitimat RCMP cells until a bail hearing was conducted, later being release on a release order to attend court on a future date. (2023-4039)

90-day Immediate roadside driving prohibition:

A report of a possible intoxicated driver was received by the Kitimat RCMP on October 20th. Enough information was received by the investigating officer that the vehicle was able to be located along Lahakas Blvd South. A traffic stop was initiated, a sample of the driver’s breath was provided and it was found the driver had consumed alcohol before driving. As a result, the driver was given a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. (202-4041)

24 hour driving prohibition:

On October 22nd, the Kitmat RCMP were made aware of a driver that appeared to be sleeping behind the wheel of a running vehicle. Kitimat RCMP officers attended the dispatched location and, after several attempts, were able to wake up the driver. It was found the driver had consumed a drug and was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition. The vehicle was impounded as well. (2023-4065)

Vehicle vs moose collision:

During the early evening hours of October 23rd, the Kitimat RCMP were advised of a collision between a moose and a vehicle on Highway 37, north of Kitimat. Luckily there was no injuries to the driver with damages to the front bumper, hood and windshield of the vehicle. The moose was not seen until the last minute due to the darkness and the fact it was during the first snow fall of the year in the area. The Kitimat RCMP would like to remind drivers that it gets dark very early in the evening and it stays dark later in the morning now, so please ensure your headlights and tail lights are always on. Illegal passing:

A vehicle making an illegal pass near the Haisla Bridge was reported to the Kitimat RCMP on October 24th. The information provided afforded the investigation officer the chance to identify the registered owner of the vehicle. The investigation is continuing and the registered owner my receive a violation ticket for passing on a double yellow solid line. (2023-4078)

Lost wallet:

A lost wallet was reported to the Kitimat RCMP on October 25th. The wallet contained bank cards and medical cards, and an out of province drivers license. A file number was requested for travel purposes. If you locate a missing wallet, please advise the Kitimat RCMP so the return of the wallet to the owner can be facilitated. (2023-4095)

Cause a disturbance:

On October 25th, the Kitimat RCMP were called to a fight outside a business on the 500 block of Mountianview Square. The responding officers were able to identify the participants in the fight and it was determined it was consensual and without further information, no charges would be forwarded to Crown Counsel for assault. While dealing with one participant, however, they became belligerent and found themselves being arrested and lodged into cells until being released without charge. (2023-4105)
