The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 355 calls for service from Friday Jan. 20, to 9 a.m. on Jan. 23, 2023. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Break-in on Columbia Street West

2023-2356

Police are investigating a break in that saw tools, vehicles, and other items stolen from a commercial location.

On Jan. 20, 2023 around 6:25 a.m., the Kamloops RCMP Detachment received a report of an overnight break-in at a business on the 800-block of Columbia Street West. A Ford Explorer and a Ford Ranger stolen were recovered later that morning and examined by the Forensic Identification Service Unit.

Assault downtown

A report of five to six people fighting in front of a store on the 600-block of Seymour Street led to a man being arrested for assault.

On Jan. 20, 2023, around 4:15 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers attended the location in response. There, they arrested a man who allegedly assaulted two people after he was confronted for urinating in front of a woman and a child.

The man was held in cells until sober, then released with a court date and conditions. Charge recommendation is anticipated following the investigation’s conclusion.

Fire hydrant hit and run

Police are looking for witnesses and information related to a vehicle crash that resulted a fire hydrant pouring water into a yard.

On Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023, around 1:50 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers attended an address on the 700-block of Fraser Street where a newer, silver four-door sedan allegedly crashed into a yard and struck a fire hydrant, resulting in water pouring onto a property and into a house. Several people described as young, likely in their teens or twenties, were seen getting back into the car before it drove away.

The vehicle is believed to have front end damage. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment and reference file 2023-2584.

Officer on patrol locates overdose

A police officer was patrolling the 600-block of Seymour Street around 1 a.m. when he discovered an unconscious person in a parking lot.

The officer attempted to wake the person, but was unsuccessful. He contracted paramedics and administered two doses of naloxone, resulting in the man’s breathing returning to normal and then to him regaining consciousness.

The man refused to attend the hospital and left on foot.

Three-vehicle collision on Westsyde Road

A person was taken to hospital with injuries following a collision in Westsyde Saturday afternoon.

On Jan. 21, 2023, around 3:55 p.m., police were called to Westsyde Road between McQueen Drive and Grasslands Boulevard where three vehicles had collided and were blocking the roadway. A dog in the vehicle was taken into the care of firefighters, who were making arrangements for a veterinarian to attend. One person was transported to hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.

Assault with a weapon investigation

A man was arrested and another was taken to hospital, after police were called to an assault report on the 200-block of Chancellor Drive.

On Sunday Jan. 26, 2023, around 7:40 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers attended a residence where two people had allegedly been fighting; blunt force objects were involved. Both men were known to each other. One was taken to hospital by ambulance in stable condition, the other was transported to cells.

The accused was released once sober, with conditions and court date.

Bear spray assault on the North Shore

Police are investigating an assault with a weapon report involving bear spray.

On Sunday Jan. 22, 2023, around 7:15 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to the 700-block of Tranquille, where an employee had been assaulted with bear spray after asking a man to leave the store.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male wearing brown pants and a black Reebok hoodie. Anyone with information related to this ongoing investigation is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-2657.
