Kamloops RCMP investigating collision involving police vehicle

The Kamloops RCMP Detachment is investigating a collision involving a Chase RCMP police vehicle that occurred earlier this morning in downtown Kamloops.

Just after 8 a.m. on March 22, 2023, a Chase RCMP officer was traveling eastbound on Columbia Street near 10th Avenue in a fully marked police vehicle. A southbound, red, older model Ford F-F150 pick-up, allegedly failed to stop at the traffic control device at the corner of Columbia Street and 10th Ave and drove directly into the path of the police vehicle.

The police officer was unable to avoid the collision and struck the pick-up near the passenger door and box, causing it to spin around and strike a parked car, before coming to rest in the northbound lane.

The driver of the pick-up, a 57-year-old from Kamloops was taken to hospital for precautionary assessment. The police officer was not physically injured.

S/Sgt. Shoihet of the Kamloops RCMP states, While the cause of the collision of remains under investigation, impairment by alcohol has been ruled out.
