On September 2nd, 2022, officers with BC Highway Patrol’s CRD Integrated Road Safety Unit were working in the Western Communities near Victoria. While in the area, a member of the public advised officers about a large gathering of cars and motorcycles. The citizen believed some of the vehicles may become involved in street racing or other Motor Vehicle Act offences.

In response, CRD-IRSU members conducted enforcement in the area and issued 80 violation tickets and impounded two vehicles for excessive speed.

I am a car and motorcycle enthusiast and enjoy seeing the pride people have in their vehicles, says S/Sgt. Adam Tallboy, Acting Commander of BCHP Vancouver Island. Sadly, a small number of the people attending these types of events engage in dangerous driving behaviour. BC Highway Patrol will continue working with our partner agencies to monitoring events such as this to ensure public safety while allowing people to enjoy their passion for vehicles.

Road safety is a shared responsibility among police, ICBC, RoadSafetyBC and you, the everyday driver. Please make good decisions when it comes to driving to help make our highways safer together.
