Speed limits

Posted speed limits on BC roadways are maximum speeds during ideal conditions (dry roads, clear visibility).

Drivers are encouraged to know their own personal limitations as a driver. Not all drivers are capable of driving at the maximum speed limit posted on a roadway. Remember, when you do travel at a speed less than the maximum, ensure you travel in the right lane. This allows for vehicles travelling faster (up to the maximum) to safely pass you and to not impede traffic flow.

You can get also ticket for driving dangerously slow. Section 145(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act requires: A person must not drive a motor vehicle at so slow a speed as to impede or block the normal and reasonable movement of traffic, except when reduced speed is necessary for safe operation or in compliance with law.

Vehicle type, condition and whether or not you are towing anything can also affect the speed at which you should travel. Know your vehicle limitations as well and always think safety first.
