File # 2023-6536

When a local hiker went missing in Durrance Lake Park local search & rescue volunteers left their annual Christmas gathering to help find him!

On Sunday December 10th, 2023, the Sidney / North Saanich RCMP were notified of a missing hiker in Durrance Lake Park. With evening setting in and the weather conditions getting bad police called Peninsula Emergency Measures Organization (PEMO) and Metchosin Search and Rescue (MSAR) to assist with the search.

Without hesitation volunteers from PEMO and MSAR dropped everything and ventured out in the dark, cold, wet and windy night assist in the search. It didn’t take long for the hiker to be reunited with his family. Besides being cold and wet he was otherwise in good condition.

The Sidney/North Saanich RCMP want to send out a big thank you to both the Metchosin Search & Rescue and the Peninsula Emergency Measures Organization for the great work they do.
