File # 2023-2788 Dangerous Driver

On the afternoon of June 7th, 2023 just after 2:00 p.m., police officers from the Sidney North Saanich RCMP responded to a report of a red Audi which was travelling northbound against the traffic in the southbound lane of the Patricia Bay Hwy near Beacon Avenue.

Thanks to dash cam footage provided by the public, police were able to confirm the licence plate and the registered owner of the vehicle was identified.

This was an incredibly dangerous situation and we are grateful that no one was harmed. It was reported that there were several instances where this driver nearly caused head on collisions. At highway speeds this could have been disastrous, said Corporal Andres Sanchez, Media Relations Officer with the Sidney North Saanich RCMP.

The registered owner has been charged under the BC Motor Vehicle Act and further investigation is pending to determine why and where the vehicle entered the oncoming lane.

The public is encouraged to call 911 and forward dash cam footage to police if they encounter vehicles which are being operated in a dangerous manner.
