File # 2024-6835

A man is in custody following the recovery of a stolen truck in Kamloops on Friday.

On March 8, 2024, around 5:45 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers received a report of a vehicle stolen from a residence on Alexander Avenue. Around 8:30 a.m., police attended the residence and arrested a suspect who had returned to the location, but the truck was still missing.

Around 9:15 a.m., officers patrolling the area observed the truck and attempted to stop it, but it allegedly fled, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP Detachment spokesperson. With the assistance of the Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment, the vehicle was relocated shortly after and a suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Justin Edward Read, 35, of Kamloops, is charged with driving while prohibited, theft of motor vehicle, and failing to stop for a police officer. He was remanded into custody until his next court appearance, scheduled for March 13.

A second suspect was arrested and released with a court date and conditions.

Anyone who witnessed or has information that may be related to this investigation is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2024-6835.

As the matter is now before the court the Kamloops RCMP will have no further comment at this time.
